From humble beginnings in 1933, when Isaac Mond and son Harry sold clothing off-cuts to woollen mills to recycle into blankets, MIG has evolved to stay at the leading edge of quality bedding manufacturing.
In the early 1970s, Wool quilts began to emerge as an alternative to blankets and feather and down doonas. Harry and his brother Dave saw an opportunity to take the company in a new direction. For the next 25 years, MIG became the sole supplier of wool filling to prominent Australian quiltmaker Sleepmaster.
In 1995, Dave’s sons Barry and David took the company’s tradition of innovation to a new level, when they acquired state-of-the-art German technology to manufacture quilts and pillows. In 1997, David formed a partnership with Dominic Romano and Joseph Goldenbrut and created MIG Australia to further expand the quilt manufacturing business. MIG Australia began exporting woollen quilts to China, Korea and Russia using only the best wool available – downs wool since 1997. We became and still are the only manufacturer to supply a certificate from our wool supplier stating the wool we use is 100% downs wool.
In 2013 the tradition continues, with David’s daughter Rebecca (the fourth generation) working to ensure MIG Australia remains at the forefront of the industry.
